ADRA Canada, Salanga – LEAF project evaluation in Rwanda

I was invited to evaluate this project by Jakub Nemec from Salanga NGO. The purpose of the evaluation was to assess the actual achievements of the project versus the targeted results, identify lessons learned; sustainability of project results and provide recommendations for improved follow-up activities, as well as project design and implementation of similar programs in the future.

The objective of the LEAF project was to increase food security among women, men, girls and boys most vulnerable to climate change in the refugee/returnee areas of Gatsibo and Kayonza Districts in Eastern Rwanda. The main outcomes were planned to be achieved by improving household nutrition and income-generation through gender-sensitive climate adaptation initiatives (permaculture kitchen gardening, protective agroforestry, cooperative demonstration gardens, and women’s capacity building) targeting households and cooperatives (both female-only and mixed-sex cooperatives).
