Ugandan-Czech hospital in Buikwe, Uganda

Caritas Prague, fundraising for Ugandan-Czech hospital

I raised funds for founding this hospital in 2005-2006. The goal was to enable health care to people from the rural areas in Buikwe including communities in the Victoria lake islands. The deciding moment of fundraising was winning a grant from the Czech Ministry of Health. The rest of the funds was gained from the individual donors, corporate sector and through intensive media work. Last time I visited the hospital was in February 2010 and I was very proud hearing from the local people in the nearby villages that the hospital provides services also at night and it generally enjoys excellent reputation. In 2013 it won 115th place among hospitals in Uganda, which is a great success considering it is a purely rural hospital.
